The Swiss graphic designer Ralph Schraivogel is considered as one of the greates poster deisgners of the 1990’s. He was awarded the first prize of the Chaumont International Poster Competition three times in 1996,2010 and 2017. His posters are in the permanent collections of major museums such as the MoMA of New York and the Stedelijk Musem in Amsterdam.

Ralph Schraivogel has designed books, logos and visual identities yet is mostly dedicated to designing posters for cultural events and institutions. He was in charge of the visual communication of the Filmpodium as of 1983 and  has regularly designed posters for the Museum fĂĽr Gestaltung of ZĂĽrich since 1984.

Observing, investigating, studying, re-interpreting are the typical stages of Ralph Schraivogel’s process, by which he proposes novel forms that are visually very powerful.

Ralph Schraivogel’s work is appreciated for the virtuosity of its compositions, namely the relation between the text and image. His graphic work is consistent, singular and rare:  the annual production is limited and represents two or three posters, which he creates in the course of a long process of sketching and researching.

The exhibition presents 65 posters from the contemporary collections of le Signe, completed by loans from the personal archives of the author, preparatory documents where the creative process and the intermediate stages of poster design are revealed.

The exhibition Ralph Schraivogel was produced  partnership with the University of le Havre.
