Club Collecte is a documental and archival project about the publishing phenomenon of the “Clubs du Livre” book clubs in France.

By the end of the Second World War, many libraries were destroyed and reconstituting knowledge was an important issue, essential in this period. The book clubs with their mail order and subscription sales systems, based on an American model, appeared to be an ideal alternative for all those who wanted to replenish their collection at an affordable price. The Club Français du Livre, founded in 1946, was the initiator of a real publishing phenomenon that lasted several decades and overturned the way of considering, designing and grasping books in the second half of the 20th century.

The Clubs de livres, developed on the model of American book clubs that appeared in France as of 1946 after the War, offered their subscribers books by subscription that they received every month by mail orde
