Selected for the 28th International Posters Competition of Chaumont, 2019.
The subject of this
screen-printed poster is put very simply: Strasburg at night, sometime in
November. A huge sphere enlivened by colour, light and matter is floating in a
grey sky. This image is at the same time figurative and symbolic, abstract and
allegoric. The text is placed around this sphere, the main subject – the
festival, where the complexity of the image, the singularity of the festival
are played. The effect of the colours is achieved by means of a sophisticated
printing process called “machine gradation” where in one passage, several pure
colours can be printed. These gradients vary according to the ink that is added
between the passages.
Imagine bumping into this poster on a street corner in Strasbourg one gloomy
November evening….
