Le Signe invites you to discover the outcomes of the 2026 Culture-Justice project, carried out at Chaumont Prison with people in custody. Initiated and coordinated by Le Signe, the workshops were led by graphic designers Gauthier Plaetevoet and Ophélie Manchon from the Ocho Gambas studio.

Over the course of nine sessions throughout the year, the 18 participants designed and printed La Barizienne, an in-house newspaper for Chaumont Prison, using texts written during a creative writing workshop. The sessions introduced them to the graphic design and layout of a newspaper and to screen printing.

A workshop open to the general public

With the aim of building a connection between the prison and its surrounding community, the project also gave rise to a workshop open to the general public, held on 16 October as part of Le Signe’s 10th anniversary weekend. Also led by Ocho Gambas, the workshop invited participants to create an anniversary newspaper based on testimonials and archival images from Le Signe, while learning the basics of risograph and screen printing.

The 2026 Culture-Justice project was carried out in partnership with Chaumont Prison and the Haute-Marne Prison Integration and Probation Service (SPIP). It received support from the French Government, the Grand Est Regional Council, the Haute-Marne Departmental Council and the City of Chaumont.
