Fulfilling its mission as an art centre, defined by law as a « head of research » into artistic forms of the future, le Signe initiates and supports experimental research in its artistic field, graphic design.

For its first residence, le Signe hosted Lucile Bataille from 1 September 2016 to 31 August 2017.

In 2018,  creative residences with Mari Kanstad Johnson, Bettina Henni and Simon Roussin contributed to the richness of the exhibition “Chemin papier: Illustration et ses marges”.

In 2019, le Signe, associated with Andra launched the first edition of the creative and research residence for graphic designers, researchers in linguistics and communication science, theorists, historians, or specialised curators in the field of graphic design and visual culture.
