Chantal Jacquet, letter painter from Haute- Marne, has marked the visual urban landscape of Chaumont through the signs she painted and that can still be found here and there throughout the town.

When the graphic designer Timothée Gouraud settled down in Chaumont, he noticed this vernacular signature bearing a tradition and know-how that is slowly but surely disappearing, and ended up meeting the artist behind this brushstroke that marked the town.

The project “Lettres peintes” sparked the interest of the prestigious Atelier National de Recherche Typographique (ANRT) of the Nancy Art School (ENSAD) who joined Timothée Gouraud’s project by extending it into a type design research project and paying a contemporary tribute to Chantal Jacquet’s heritage.

In partnership with l'ANRT and ENSA Nancy.
