Collection Hors les Murs

The Musée de l’Image in Épinal presents the temporary exhibition Suivez-moi Jeune Homme, Images de mode et presse féminine (1778-1939), spanning over a century and a half of illustrations of women’s fashion.

From popular imagery that pokes fun at the extravagances of crinolines to enticing advertising posters, from photographic portraits of beautiful unknown women to an increasingly sophisticated women’s press, the exhibition delves into the everyday image of women, whether real or idealised, and the ever-changing fashion designed for one purpose: to captivate.

Seven posters from the City of Chaumont’s collection are on display at the Musée de l’Image as part of the exhibition, running until May 18, 2025.

In the past, a “suivez-moi-jeune-homme” referred to a ribbon placed on a dress at the waist or wrapped around a woman’s hat.
