For the 2021 edition of the International Graphic Design Biennial, Le Signe organized the first edition of the Prix Unique du Livre; a selection of 20 French books among the most distinctive and remarkable. This inaugural edition was an opportunity to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Lang Law, but also to break a decade-long absence of the competition for the most beautiful French books.
Since then, the Prix Unique du Livre has been held again as part of the International Graphic Design Biennial. It is based on the selection of 20 books published over the past three years, and chosen independently. The Prix Unique du Livre is not a competition; it recognizes, but does not rank. However, it serves to highlight a French selection, offering international visibility to publishing in France.
The selection is made independently by a jury composed of figures from the publishing world, graphic designers, and publishers: Marie-Mam Sai Bellier, Elamine Maecha, Séverine Bascouert from the Institut sérigraphique, and Laurent Bruel and Nicolas Frühauf from Éditions Matière.
